A California Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA) is a medical assistant who meets the qualifications established by the California Certifying Board for Medical Assistants (CCBMA). Entry-level medical assistants must pass a comprehensive, objective examination administered by CCBMA to become certified. Applicants must pass the basic examination and one specialty (either administrative or clinical). Taking a second specialty is optional.
